08:24am - Rolling Rolling Rolling...

I need tires. So as part of my quest to increase mpg Im looking to get Low Rolling Resistance tires.
Less Rolling Resistance = Less Engine Strain = Less Gas = More Efficiency = Less Emissions
Sounds like win/win.

To be considered a LRR tire it must score less than .0105 in a Green Seal test.

The best rated tires I want are rated .0062.
The closest available tire in the factory size is rated .0092.

However,
The Camry rides on 195/70 but the .0062 tires only come in 185/70 ( the .0092 come in my size ).

Now, going down in tire size will affect the speedometer and mileage.
195 to 185 will cause a 2.2% change. So if my speedometer shows 60mph Im actually going 58.68mph or so. 60 miles traveled would actually be 58.68 etc etc.

The .0062 tires will be $380 with shipping.
The .0092 are $188 with shipping.
I expected around $400 so both are in my price range.

So if I go with the better more expensive tires I will have to factor that into my mpg calculations.
If I go with the cheaper factory size there will be no calculation but Im loosing 30% of the possible gain.

Hmmm...what to do...

09:33am - Man in the Box -or- The grass wasnt greener

Compact car BAD!

- A Size too small
6'1" does NOT fit well in a civic.
By the time I hit Richmond ( hour and a half or so ) my shoulders were already burning. Could not get long legs comfortable. Im used to an arm rest I drive with my right elbow on. Lack of that made things complicated thus the shoulder pain.

- The pedal fight
The gas pedal didnt like to be pressed down and would actually try to come back up. Not only did this make it impossible to keep a constant speed unless the cruise was on it did wonders for my old man knee.

- All over the damn road
I keep my tires at a high psi for less road resistance, better handling and mpg. The civic was floating all over the damn place. I HAD to constantly steer. I dropped the tires to 44 at the first rest stop. That helped a lot but it was still squirrely. I suppose Im used to a heavier vehicle.

- STOP! GO!
The cruise control made me want to shoot myself.
In the Camry if you press the accel or decel buttons it will slowly increase or decrease until you let go. The civc? The accel was fine but the decel completely came off the gas until you let go. Yeah, rpms drop to nothing and then shoot back up.

Comapct car GOOD!

Hauling ass at 70+ mph with AC and stereo on still resulted in 36mpg when I filled up just south of Pedro's.

RESULT
Goodbye compact.
It was great for the pocket but bad for the body. Oh well. I will take the down payment money and try to make something out of the Camry.

10:58am -

1993 Toyota Camry
4 Door EX
180+k miles
44 psi
65 and below
EPA rated 18/26/21
32 mpg
45 mph/rpm sweet spot
15 gallon tank
$67.50 full tank @ $4.50 gallon

1998 Honda Civic
4 Door LX
112+k miles
50 psi
65 and below
EPA rated 25/33/28
?? mpg
?? mph/rpm sweet spot
12 gallon tank
$54 full tank @ $4.50 gallon

They couldnt take my Camry as a trade in because my father is still on the title ( due to him cosigning with me ). So I gave the value of the trade in out of pocket and will have him switch the title over to me this weekend at the beach. It turns out it might be for the best.

The car is very pretty and the exterior and interior in great condition. It has a tight drive which I like and doesnt float like the Camry.
However, the gas pedal sticks at first. Thats nothing serious that I cant fix. It looks like it will be a bitch so I may have CarMax do it ( if I keep it ).
I left the dealership yesterday with a full tank and pulled into work today with 60 miles or so on the trip mileage. The gas guage shows between full and 3/4 tank. Closer to 3/4. Thats NOT ok.

From the stats above I got 480 miles to a full tank with the Camry, 6 miles above the EPA rating.
35 is the minimum I will accept out of the Civic but I would prefer higher. Id like to get the same 480 range with the smaller tanked Civic.

The trip down to SC this weekend will be my answer. Stay tuned.

12:20pm - Drive slower...

I hate and loathe to admit it but driving slower works. It saves money by giving you more miles per gallon ( or litre ). I used to fly down the roads but gas is getting too damn expensive to be filling up every 6 days.

I currently drive a 93 Toyota Camry which is rated at 27 mpg highway ( mostly what I drive ). I was getting just under that driving my usual 65-85mph. I slowed down to 40-63 or so. Im getting 35 mpg now. May not seem like a lot but 5 extra mpg and a 15 gallon tank = 75 extra miles before fill up. Not too bad.

TECHNIQUES
Drive slower/leave earlier
Driving slower means its going to take longer to get there. So you have to leave earlier. Try to drive 5-10 under the speed limit. On the highways do the speed limit.

Alternate Routes
Going slower is going to piss people off ( see disadvantages ). So find less traveled routes where you wont have inbred republicans sodomizing your car with their suv of choice.

Neutral/Engine Off
For automatic drivers shift into neutral when rolling to a stop ( remember to shift back ).
If you are at a light you know is long, put it in park and turn the engine off.

ADVANTAGES
Save money, fill up less, less contribution to the almost dead world

DISADVANTAGES
Impatient fucks up your ass, trips take longer, tendency to nod off more due to lack of stimulation.

It works. It SUCKS but it works.

11:46am - from an email to the geek squad...

So....dunno if youve been following but they have put out a lot of pics for the cast of G.I. Joe.

I wasnt as much of a fanboy of this as I was of Transformers but I still watched everyday.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=44754

From the pictures....damn. The original GI Joe was gay but this....wow.

Im waiting for Treat Williams to show up and the director to pull off a mask and be Uwe Boll.

08:57am - Boondocks Season Two warning.

Amazon Estimates June 10th shipping date

HOWEVER!

The season was originally supposed to air 15 episodes. Two episodes ( The Hunger Strike & The Uncle Ruckus Reality Show ) were not aired.

Unconfirmed but probably true:
This is rumored to be caused from pressure on Sony from BET ( the source of biting ridicule in the two episodes ).

DO NOT buy this unless all 15 episodes are on the disc.

That said I loved the Boondocks. Season One was great and the thirteen episodes of Season Two are amazing. Definitely buy if it's un-rated, uncensored, and uncut.

NEVER pay for censorship.

06:21am - waste of time....

I present you with workable and real numbers on saving money (, the earth, and part of your soul ). This change will require an initial small expensive up front and a small increase in a monthly payment. It will also require a small ( medium i suppose to some ) lifestyle change. The change will net you anywhere from half a thousand to a full grand in savings a year.

It gets turned down due to lack of willingness to change. *sigh*

Thats the reason why Im a cynic and realist. You monkeys are too lazy to do something for your own good.

There needs to be a box you can must check when uploading art to a gallery.

"Does this character have extreme unrealistic proportions ( example: world destroying boobs )?"

So that way I can uncheck it when I browse and not have to look at your shitty art.

Oooooh Ooooooh. Add a box for "furry" art as well.

09:42am - as time passes

I lay to rest my love for RuSan's in buckhead.
Its been over run by hipster socialite bastards. *sigh*
I remember when people from all walks of life were there. Now its full of future yuppies.

In an unrelated note, those same stains on humanity have invaded the skankiest of skanky strip clubs, The Clairmont Lounge.
What. The. Fuck.
The last time I went ( which was admittedly several years ago ) it was populated by the fringes of society. Now?
It was like everyone shopped at PacSun and Hollister.

I give up.

At least one restaurant remains unchanged ( name withheld incase this is read by the scat of society by ).
